Our Funeral Homes
Our Myers Chapel in Connersville, Indiana:
Our heritage goes back over 100 years, to the year 1900. A young dreamer, Charles Myers, proudly opened his own funeral establishment in what was then the heart of downtown Connersville, in the Oddfellows Building that is now occupied by the Connersville News-Examiner. In 1932, Mr. Myers moved his business to 920 Central Avenue, carefully preserving the original character and beauty of the handsome Victorian house that was once home to the family of Andrew Frazee. Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, continues to serve the Connersville community from this beautiful location.
John L. Showalter, a Connersville native who owned funeral homes in College Corner and Liberty, purchased Myers Funeral Home in 1978 with his long time friend and associate J. Michael Blackwell. One year later, Joel D. Long moved back to Connersville with his wife Vickie to take a licensed position with Showalter-Blackwell. In 1998, the funeral home recognized Long's commitment to the funeral home and community, and changed the name to Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel.
Throughout the years, various additions and improvements have been made to the historical building at 920 Central. These improvements allow us to offer more meaningful services, while still retaining the warmth of a home.

In 1935, Riley and Mary Miller expanded their funeral business in College Corner, Ohio to include Liberty, Indiana. Dave and Naydean Baker joined them in the 1950s, and the funeral homes were renamed Miller-Baker Funeral Homes. Following the death of Mr. Miller in 1962, the Bakers assumed full operation of the funeral homes and operated as Baker Funeral Homes.
John and Judy Showalter acquired the homes in 1970, and then in 1973 combined with Fosdick Funeral Home to form the Baker-Showalter Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel at 312 West Union Street in Liberty. Mike Blackwell moved to Liberty with his wife, Sandy, to help in the growing business and later managed both locations.
Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Homes is honored to be the leading funeral service provider in the Whitewater Valley area.
