Butch Sexton

Butch Sexton, 66, died Monday, August 24, 2026, in Richmond.

The son of Kenneth Sexton and Joann Shocklee, Butch was born on May 9, 1960, in New Castle, Indiana. He attended Ivy Tech where he received his Automotive certificate. Butch did so well in the program he taught the class for one semester. He married the former Diana Kay Cook. They were married for forty-four years prior to her death in 2023.

Butch had a love for cars and was employed as a mechanic for many years prior to becoming an electrician. He worked hard to provide for his family, ensuring they were always taken care of. When he was a child, Butch enjoyed coon hunting with his grandpa. When his children were young, Butch taught them everything he knew about cars. As his children Tangie and Josh got older, their house became the “hangout”, and their friends became Butch’s bonus kids. He adored every single one of them. Butch enjoyed fishing, especially at Doc O’ lakes, the reservoir, and Martindale. No matter what he was doing, or where he was going, Butch was never without his best friend Bufford - his beloved dog of sixteen years.

In addition to his many bonus children, Butch is survived by his daughter: Tangie Grimes and her husband Brad; son: Josh Sexton and Kristen Melton; grandchildren: Jack, Jase, Lennox, Emma, and Wyatt; brothers: Brad and Brian Sexton; nephew and nieces: Kenneth Sexton, Danielle Williams, and Nicki Clopp; many friends.

Butch is preceded in death by his wife: Diana; parents: Kenneth and Joann; his best friend: Bufford.

At Butch’s request cremation was chosen. A celebration of his life will be conducted at the convenience of his family. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association in memory of his wife Diana. Showalter Blackwell Long, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty has been entrusted with Butch’s arrangements.
