Connersville resident, Carol S. Abercrombie, 68, died peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026, with her daughters by her side, and her husband holding her hand.
Carol was born on February 11, 1957, to Boyd and Mary Steele Pence. She attended Laurel High School graduating with the class of 1975. She married the love of her life, Clarence “Eugene” Abercrombie on June 17, 1978, at Laurel Nazarene Church. Carol was the assistant manager of Hampton Inn for many years prior to her well deserved retirement. A woman of faith, Carol was an active member of Greater Vision International Ministries in Metamora, Indiana. She loved the Lord and enjoyed listening to his word. Carol had the voice of an angel. Alongside her daughters, she started God’s Helping Hands and together they traveled around singing the word of God. She had a heart of gold, and while it may take a bit for her to warm up to you, once she did, she was a friend for life. Carol had a passion for reading, watching the Hallmark Channel and taking care of her close-knit family. The love she carried for her family was never-ending and every one of them meant the world to her. Though their hearts are broken, her family finds comfort knowing she is no longer in pain, and she is rejoicing with her savior in Heaven.
In addition to her loving husband of forty-eight years, Eugene, Carol is survived by her twin daughters and their spouses: Stacy and Jeff Riehle, Tracy and Tim Chance; grandchildren: Brandon King, Carson and Kaylee Riehle; siblings: Wanda Reese, Danny and Leona Pence, Marcia West, Michael Pence; several nieces and nephews, extended family members and many friends.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents: Boyd and Mary; sister: Nancy Kersey.
The family would like to thank Reid Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion during Carol’s final days.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville with Bishop Brandon Blevins presiding. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. At Carol’s request, please come dressed as you are.
