Dennis David Cooper Sr., 77, of Connersville, died unexpectedly at his home, on Friday, July 4, 2025.
A Connersville native, Dennis was born on September 24, 1947, to Forrest and Marguerita Miller Cooper. He graduated from Connersville High School with the class of 1966. After graduation, he served for two years as a police officer for the United States Army. On January 2, 1970, Dennis married the former Rebecca “Jan” Baldwin. He was employed with D & M for many years and later at Klosterman Bakery in Morristown, from which he retired in 2016. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1. Dennis enjoyed mushroom hunting, doing puzzles and spending time with his family and many friends. He also enjoyed arrowhead hunting with his close friends John Earl and John Brummett.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife: Rebecca “Jan” Cooper; his children and their spouses: Collette and Ryan Shepler; Dennis D. Cooper Jr.; Chad and Rita Cooper; Justin and Erin Cooper, Stephanie Cooper, all of Connersville; grandchildren: Dezarae and Brett Snyder, Brittany Gallimore, Shelby and Derek Goldey, Dakota, Dawson, Grayson and Hunter Shepler, Zachary and Hailey Cooper, Colton Cooper, Sierra and Mikey Hofer, Megan and Cody Orr, Alex and Sarah Cooper, Breanna Cooper, LaJayla, Jarred, Jayden and Kyler Barrett; sixteen great-grandchildren; In-laws: Nella Cooper, Ronald Baldwin, Pamela Patterson, Dainel and Janet Baldwin, Mary Underwood, George Underwood; several nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents Forrest and Marguerita, Dennis is preceded in death by his step-mother: Ethel Cooper; son: Jeremy Cooper; brothers: Darel and Timothy Cooper; daughter in-law: Paula Cooper; granddaughter: Summer Barrett; grandson: Gabriel Shepler; In-laws: Foster and June Baldwin, Howard and Sandy Baldwin, Connie Cooper, Diane Baldwin, Jack Patterson.
The funeral service for Dennis will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, July 21, 2025, at Showalter Blackwell Long, Myers Chapel, Connersville with Rev. Bobby Lee, officiating. Interment will follow in Laurel North Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
