Don Crutchfield

Donald E. Crutchfield, 89, of Connersville, died Monday, April 28, 2025, at Reid Healthcare in Richmond.

A Connersville native, Don was born on November 10, 1935, to George and Pauline Krieg Crutchfield. He graduated from Alquina High School with the class of 1954. Don enlisted in the United States Army serving from 1958 until 1960 as a Sargent paratroopers division. Don married the Queen of Fayette County former Joyce E. Hensley on November 10, 1962, at Calvary Baptist Church, in Connersville. Don was an incredibly hard worker who instilled the importance of a solid work ethic in his sons at a very early age. He was first employed as a loan officer at Central State Bank. He then opened the Crutchfield Texaco and later, Crutchfield Suzuki with Joyce. Lastly, they owned and operated Crutchfield Auto Sales for many years building lasting relationships within the community. Don had a passion for hotrods which earned him many trophies and the nickname “The Legend of Connersville”. In addition, he always looked forward to loading up and heading to Haspin Acres for either a Hare Scramble or to Motocross. Don will be remembered as simple man who was tough but fair.

Don is survived by his sons and their wives: Derek Crutchfield and Laurie, Brett Crutchfield and Danielle, all of Indianapolis; grandchildren: Mackenzie, Alexia, Gabe, Landon and Collier; great-grandchild: Sage; brother: Steve Crutchfield; sister: Maria Crutchfield; many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In addition to his parents and his wife Joyce, Don is preceded in death by his brothers: Tommy Dean, Jeffrey, and Greg Crutchfield; many pets whom he loved dearly.

At Don’s request there will be no public services. Interment will be conducted in Dale Cemetery, section K, at the convenience of his family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Animal Shelter in his honor.
