Elsie Hofmann

Elsie M. Hofmann, 100, of Connersville died Tuesday, April 29, 2025, with her loving family by her side.

The daughter of Atwell and Rosa Banfield Pope, Elsie was born on August 8, 1924, in Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from Brownsville High School with the class of 1942. On May 12th, 1944, in Oklahoma City, Elsie married Donald Hofmann; together they shared twenty-three years of marriage prior to his death in 1967. For more than fifty years, Elsie volunteered at Fayette Memorial Hospital. Her infectious smile greeted patients as they entered the hospital. Elsie was a proud woman of God, serving in many capacities at her church, First Baptist Church in Connersville. In addition, she was a 4H leader and volunteered at the Fate Center. Elsie received many awards and accolades over the years including The Golden Hoosier award as well as being asked to participate in the Fayette County Bicentennial as a torch bearer. Elsie adored traveling frequently with her best friend Hazel and sister Margaret. She was an avid walker who also enjoyed riding her bike up into her 80’s. Above all, Elsie treasured the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all.

Elsie is survived by her children and their spouses: Marilyn Drake, Sharon Scott and James, Phyllis Mudd, Bruce Hofmann and Lisa, Nancy Strong and John; sister: Margaret Hensley; twenty-two grandchildren; many many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In addition to her parents and her husband Donald, Elsie is preceded in death her daughter: Judy Ann Hofmann; sister: Evelyn Stanley; sons in-law: Walter “Pete” Stalnaker II, Butch Mudd.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., May 8, 2025, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Pastor Mal Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Springersville Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m., until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church in Elsie’s honor.
