Gregg L. Powell, 74, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 1, 2026.

The eldest son of Leland and Carolyn Carr Powell, Gregg was born on March 16, 1951, in Connersville. He graduated from Connersville High School in 1969 before furthering his education at Valencia College in Florida. Gregg was a man with a fun sense of humor and a heart full of love. He had a passion for music and was able to play multiple instruments including the 6-string guitar, 12-string guitar, bass, and drums. In the late 60’s he co-founded a band, The Psychedelics with some friends. Together, they won first place in the Battle of the Bands at the Fayette County Free Fair. In addition, Gregg was an exceptional artist with a large portfolio of his works. He was also a history enthusiast with an impeccable memory. Most of all, Gregg enjoyed spending his spare time with his family who loved him dearly.

Gregg is survived by his siblings and their spouses: Darrell Powell and Tracey Huffman, Randy and Kim Powell, Jeff and Betty Powell, Brenda and Bruce Vance; several generations of nieces and nephews; extended family members and friends. 

Gregg is preceded in death by his parents: Leland and Carolyn.

A visitation for friends and family will be conducted from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., on January 12, 2026, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville. A private burial for family will follow at Westside Cemetery in Milton.
