Connersville native, Guy A. Nichols, 76, died Friday morning, May 1, 2026, at his residence.
The son of John H. and Irene L. Hopkins Nichols, Guy was born on July 14, 1949. He graduated from Connersville Senior High in 1968. He attended one year of college at Vincennes and one year at IU. Guy married the former Mona Stang on June 29, 1985. He was employed with Green Metal Plating for twenty-nine years and later STI in Greensburg in the mixing department until his retirement in 2011. Guy faithfully attended New Heights Christian Church for many years and was an avid volunteer at Fayette Regional Health Systems. Guy was a quiet individual who enjoyed camping and traveling the states, especially Florida and the National Parks in Arizona with his wife. He was an avid bird and people watcher. Guy cheered for the Cincinnati Reds, Indianapolis Colts, and every team his grandchildren played for. He attended most of his grandkids’ games as he was their biggest fan! Guy was also a train enthusiast. He enjoyed collecting model train sets and stopping to count the train cars wherever they were traveling. Guy simply enjoyed life. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends that love him dearly.
Guy is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mona; his children: John H. Nichols, Julia R. (Jason) Hensley; brother: John (Sue) Nichols; sisters: Myrna Carlson, Marsha Baltzell, Melanie (Robert) Alves; grandchildren: Makayla (Dalton) Cope, Sharon (Hunter) Sturgeon, and Gracelynn (Stevie) Usher; great-grandchildren: Nevaeh Vickers, Colt Sturgeon; several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Guy is preceded in death by his parents John and Irene and his brothers-in-law Gordon Carlson and Robert Baltzell.
The funeral for Guy will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 8, 2026, at New Heights Christian Church with visitation at 10:00 a.m. until the service begins. Guy will be laid to rest at the Shrine of Memories Mausoleum. Friends and family may gather at the church Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Connersville, has been entrusted with his arrangements.
