James L. Ford

James L. Ford, 79, of Liberty, died Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at his residence.

The son of John B. and Rhoda Nell Callahan Ford, James was born on September 21, 1946, in Butler County, Ohio. He attended Brookville High School graduating with the class of 1964. James proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1966. While serving his country he earned the rank of Master Sargent. He was awarded numerous ribbons and medals including AFOUA with Valor, Vietnam service medal, and Vietnam Gallantry Cross. James retired from the Airforce in 1988. After returning home, he was employed as a rural delivery postman for twenty-one years until his much-deserved retirement. James married the former Evelyn E. Jones on June 3, 1977, in Biloxi, Mississippi. They were married for twenty-four years prior to her death on September 24, 2001. James was a member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his sisters: Delena Whitis, Viola Locke; several nephews and nieces including Shirley Remmler who was like a sister to him.

In addition to his wife Ethel, James is preceded in death by his parents: John and Rhoda; brothers: William E. Ford, Gary Ford; sisters: Juanita Meyer, Naomi Riggs; infant siblings: Robert, Donald, and Rhoda Lee Ford.

Honoring James’ wishes, cremation was chosen. Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty was honored to assist with his arrangements.
