Loretta J. Young

Loretta J. (Clark) Short Young, 89, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at Heritage House where she had resided for over two years.

Loretta was born on October 23, 1936, in Connersville to Francis and Frances Turney Clark. She graduated from Alquina School in 1956. The following year, Loretta married William Short at First United Methodist Church. Together she and William had two children (Robin (Bev) Short and Rae Jean (Steve) Klingenberger) and shared fifty-seven years of marriage prior to William’s death in August of 2014. In November of 2016 Loretta married Robert Young Sr., and they shared five years of marriage prior to his death in 2021. Loretta attended Everton Southern Baptist Church where she was a proud member of the choir and adored singing to her Savior every Sunday. She lived her life in Connersville and was employed at Macy’s as a cashier and meat cutter. She also worked at Design and Manufacturing Corp, and the Philco-Ford plant.

Loretta had a servant’s heart. She enjoyed helping people and served many in the community. She would often take people to their appointments and offer to clean and cook for them. More than anything, Loretta loved her family. She was blessed with four grandchildren: Holly Tanksley, Tristan (Desirae) Tanksley, Aaron (Sarah) Short, Kyle (Alyssa) Short. Two step-grandchildren: Tyler (Monica) Klingenberger and Chelsea (Jared) Gerhick. She was double blessed with ten great-grandchildren and one on the way. Loretta will be dearly missed, especially her homemade ham salad and her brownies with fudge icing - a family request that was loved by all.

Loretta is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, along with her brothers Freddie Charles and Ronald Clark.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:30p.m., Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery. Friends and family may gather from 12:00 p.m., until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to AseraCare Hospice, Dementia Society, or Alzheimer's Association in Loretta’s honor.
