Patricia Ann Scherer nee Moon, 91, of Liberty died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, September 24, 2025.
Pat was born on January 6, 1934, in Stockton, California to Elwood and Dorothy Wiant Moon. She grew up in California and graduated from Tracy High School. Pat continued her education in college until she enlisted in the United States Navy. While proudly serving our country, Pat met Donald K. Scherer, who was serving in the USMC. The two were married in 1953 and moved to his hometown in Old Fairfield, Indiana. Together they shared sixty-nine years of marriage prior to Donald’s death on June 21, 2022. Pat was a loving homemaker for many years, always tending to the needs of her family. She was very active in her children’s education. Pat always chaperoned their school events and field trips - even when the boys didn’t want her to. A member of the Mormon Church, Pat was also a member of Farm hill Extension Club and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post# 122. Pat enjoyed traveling with Donald to some of their favorite places including the Smokie Mountains, Michigan, Florida, and California to visit her family. Pat adored being in nature whether she was mushroom hunting, swimming at Whitewater, or going for a walk with her dear friend, Judy. Spending time with family and friends brought Pat the most joy of all. Though her family and friends miss her dearly, they find comfort in knowing she is at peace.
Pat is survived by her sons: Michael Scherer, Greg Scherer, and Ronald Scherer and his wife Marsha; Three grandchildren, Six Great-grandchildren, Three Great-Great-grandchildren; Special Friends: Judy Thackery, Vicki Wiwi, Diane Ozbun, Susan Wiwi; Several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and loving husband, Pat is preceded in death by her siblings: Bill Moon, Clell Moon, and Sue Moon.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at Showalter Blackwell Long, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty with Pastor Jeff Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Sims-Brier Cemetery. Friends may gather at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m., until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to The Parkinsons Foundation in Pat’s honor.
