Sylvia Ann Mitchell

Sylvia Ann Mitchell, 71, of Liberty went home with her Lord and Savior Monday, June 8, 2026.

The daughter of Carl D. Mathew and Dorothy Sikes Caprin, Sylvia, was born on July 9, 1954, in Fulton, New York. She grew up in Fulton and graduated from G. Ray Bodley High School. Sylvia married William “Bill” Mitchell on July 16, 1977. Bill served in the United States Army, and together they traveled often, moving many times along the east coast. Eventually they settled in the Liberty area. A woman of great faith, Sylvia has been a member of Word of Truth Baptist Church in Centerville since it started. She enjoyed spending time with her church family and friends. Sylvia enjoyed sewing, cooking, and tending to the numerous cats and dogs she has loved through the years. Though her family miss her dearly, they know she is rejoicing with her redeemer.

In addition to her loving husband of almost forty-nine years Bill, Sylvia is survived by her mother: Dorothy; brother: Duane Mathew; sisters: Debbie Raponi and her husband John, Judy Mathew, Carol Barbagallo; several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her father Carl; sister-in-law: Alice Mathew.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at College Corner Cemetery, West College Corner, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Acres United Rescue Animal Sanctuary, 3546 E Mitchell Rd, Liberty, IN 47353, in Sylvia’s honor.
