Thomas “Tommy” Benjamin Godar

September 7, 1975 — February 9, 2026

Thomas “Tommy” Benjamin Godar, age 50, formerly of Connersville, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on February 9, 2026, at his residence. Tommy was born September 7, 1975, the son of Thomas Godar Sr. and Deborah (Morris) Lathrop. He was married to Tawnya (Perry) Godar on July 5, 2003, and she survives.

Tommy was a great father whose love and dedication to his family never faltered. Through his many struggles, he always made time to show up for his children’s sports games, graduations, and every milestone that mattered, reminding them by his presence that they were deeply loved. No matter the circumstances, Tommy found a way to provide for his kids, leading by example with a strong work ethic he was determined to instill in them. In recent years, he was especially invested in his son Ben’s college journey, finding genuine peace and joy in being part of that season of his life. He also found immense joy and pride in his grandchildren, treasuring every moment spent with them and celebrating their lives with the same unwavering love. A devoted sports fanatic, he faithfully cheered on the Indiana Hoosiers and the Indianapolis Colts. Tommy was a man of deep faith, never missing dinner or nighttime prayer with his children when they all lived at home. He was a committed member of New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church and an active participant with the Amethyst House for recovery in Bloomington, Indiana. Tommy will be remembered as a hardworking, goofy, and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose presence brought comfort, laughter, and strength to those who knew him.

Tommy was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Survivors include his wife: Tawnya and their three children, Reili (Avery) Shuff of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Brandon (Morgan) Godar of Connersville, Indiana and Benjamin Godar of Bloomington, Indiana; grandchildren: Madi Osborn, Avalyn and Jaxtyn Godar, and Luella Shuff; his parents: Thomas (LaVita) Godar of Osgood, Indiana and Debbi (Dick) Lathrop of rural Connersville, Indiana; his siblings Jonathan (Demi) Godar, Melissa (Jimmy) Pea, Andrew (Megan) Godar, Joseph (Jennifer) Godar and Anna (John) Heselbarth, numerous nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles.
